FUTURE PROJECTS

Develop our local         partnerships for the creation of more savings & credit groups (VSLA) in Eastern Africa

Area of Intervention: Microfinance

Project: Microfinance groups in Uganda

Context: Uganda's economic growth over the past two decades has bypassed many of the country's citizens, who live mainly in rural areas. More than one third of the population lives below the international poverty line and the majority of the population depends on subsistence agriculture. Eastern Uganda has the highest poverty rate due to higher population density. Women are particularly vulnerable due to poor literacy and very limited access to financial resources. (Sources: UNDP, World Bank, FAO).

Needs: Women in rural areas of Eastern Uganda have an even more limited access to financial resources.

Goals: Through the knowledge acquired over these years in VSLA functioning and on the same applied methodological grounds, Seeds-NGO wishes to provide more organisations and more rural communities with this experience as well as with the available funds.

Support for the                   development of more credit cooperatives (SACCO) in Eastern Africa

Area of Intervention: Microfinance

Project: Support for the development of Savings And Credit Cooperative (SACCO) already established in Eastern Africa.

Context: Many SACCOs have established themselves in Uganda’s Eastern region with their own means and setting up their own strategies and working procedures. This isolation, although a clear and proud sign of their wish to develop themselves, does not let them access optimised functioning techniques and funds.

Needs: The actual funds available within those SACCOs do not allow for material and conceptual improvements necessary for the optimal development of their infrastructures. The access to external financial funds remains difficult as well because of their geographical and economic situations.

Goals: Through the knowledge acquired over these years in the microfinance sector and in SACCO functioning, and on the same applied methodological grounds, Seeds-NGO wishes to provide more organisations and more rural communities with this experience as well as with the available funds.
